Welcome to my first blog post! My name is Diana (die-ana, not dee-ah-nuh, dee-nuh, or any other variation), and I am the CEO and Founder of Beyond Diversity Consulting LLC. We are a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Consulting agency focused on creating person-centered, forward-thinking, and culturally aware workplaces where the people who show up want to keep showing up.
Hiring a DEI Consultant is a no-brainer, especially if companies haven’t allocated funds towards hiring a permanent DEI Manager in the workplace who will hold the company accountable long-term. It’s also a decision that shouldn’t just be up to leadership. As an employee that shows up on a daily basis for their employer, you should feel empowered and be encouraged by management to contribute ideas for the betterment of the organizational culture. Especially if leadership doesn’t yet have this on their radar.
Unfortunately, what usually happens is that the employees who bring up gaps or push for change, especially when it comes to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace, are then tasked with the responsibility of becoming DEI experts overnight to make the change happen while jumping through bureaucratic hoops to maybe make minimal impact. This leads to lower engagement and morale, increased stress and burnout, and overall frustration. That ain’t right
So then, the employees – who see that nothing is changing decide that they’re going to take their talents, and whatever is left of their patience to another workspace where they see growth potential both personally and professionally. Of course, if that company only presented itself as an equitable workplace on the outside based on their website and social media profiles, but internally it’s in shambles, we are back to square one and the cycle continues.
If you’ve been keeping up with the news we’re in the age of the #GreatResignation. Folks are feeling burnt out, undervalued, and overwhelmed. You better believe organizational culture or lack thereof, plays a huge role. It’s time for companies to align their #dollars and #values and hire a consultant or they’re going to be spending that money training new employees every six months.
I know what it’s like to push for change and be overlooked, I also understand that in a management position there’s only so much you can do. I’ve also worked directly with leadership to make change happen. Making a lasting impact is what I was out on this earth to do. I’m a social justice advocate, a disruptor, a strategist, and a change agent, and I’d like to officially welcome you to Beyond Diversity Consulting. Where passion meets purpose!
